Appalachia Comes To Port Dover!

JOE CLARK and DON RIGSBY: Two men...a multitude of instruments...beautiful harmonies: straight from the mountains of Kentucky and Virginia...right here in Port Dover!

Born and Raised in Southwestern,Virginia on the Clinch Mountain ridgeline, close to the famous Carter Family and the Stanley Brothers homeplaces: Joe Clark who is heavily influenced by Bill Monroe "The Father of Bluegrass Music", has made his mark on the bluegrass music industry as a well respected multi- Instrumentalist and Songwriter. With 30 years of experience specializing in Bluegrass music, Joe has traveled to every State and most provinces of Canada and the Bahamas playing the music he loves. Joe is proud to be living in Canada now and is excited about bringing his musical culture of the southern Virginia mountains to this fine land!
Two-time Grammy nominee Don Rigsby grew up listening to early Ralph Stanley records and to the high lonesome sounds of his cousin Ricky Skaggs, learning from those who went before him and then adding his own personal touches. Also influenced by the late Keith Whitley, another Elliott County native, Don comes from a family and a community of traditional musicians. He has sung since he can remember, started playing guitar at age 12, added the mandolin and fiddle, and plays the dulcimer. From remote Isonville, Ky., to an international following in Bluegrass music, Don Rigsby has remained true to his mountain roots and made his own marks as a powerful tenor and distinctive mandolin player.

The Undesirables - April 12th!!

SATURDAY APRIL 12th, 2008
Refreshments @ 7pm
Concert @ 8pm

Suggested Donation to the Artists: $15.00

Very exciting news, folks!

Cindy and I attended a House Concert a few weeks ago with a fantabulous duo known as The Undesirables. This group, originally from Georgetown, ON and now residing in Toronto, is made up of Corin Raymond and Sean Cotton and they are 2 of the most amazing performers we have ever had the priviledge of seeing in concert!

Corin Raymond (left) & Sean Cotton

We are thrilled to be a part of their esteemed, International "Doghouse Concert Tour" (we're even going to be listed on Official Tour T-Shirts which will be available for purchase at the concert... yes...it's true!!) and can't wait to have them here in April.

In performance, The Undesirables are a mesmerizing unit. They perform with total commitment. Corin hand-delivers each lyric with entrancing conviction while Sean digs into the guitar with mastery and taste and their voices blend with sibling harmony.

Their sound fills the room like the smell of onions frying on an iron skillet. Hips start swaying accidentally. Spirits rise.

If you want to get on the guest list for this smail us at cindyandsarapresent@yahoo.ca

Suggested donation to the artist: $15.00 - please bring an Appetizer to share!

On Sunday, January 20, 2008 we will be hosting multi-award-winning Singer/Songwriter: ROSE COUSINS from Halifax, NS. at our next House Concert in Port Dover, ON.

Not only is her music incredible, but she has an amazing sense of humour and really gives her audiences a great performance!

Don Brownrigg

Welcome to Cindy & Sara Present...

We wanted to have a place where you could find out more about our House Concerts and so here it is!

Keep checking back regularly as we plan our events.

First off, though...A House Concert FAQ!

Q. Why a "House Concert"?

A. Why not? You get to chose who you want to come and play for you, in your own home, with 30 (or so!) of your favourite family and friends, with some great food and great company...it's 'up close and personal', you don't have to travel far and the parking is free!

Q. How do we find the artists to invite to come and play?

We listen, we talk to people, we go to other concerts, we buy CDs, we find out who we want and then we get on the phone or the internet and ask!

Q. What does "$15.00 donation to the Artist" mean?

Exactly that...We ask you to give the musicians who are coming to play a donation of approximately $15.00. You can give more, of course, and all money goes directly to the artist.

Q. So...the people who host the House Concert don't make any money?

No we don't. We provide the house, and feed the artists and give them overnight accommodation as our contribution to the evening. The whole point to having a House Concert is to be able to have an amazing, PRIVATE concert with your closest friends. That, and getting to hang out with some pretty amazing musicians, is the incentive for those who host the House Concerts.

If anyone has any other questions for us, you can get in touch with us at cindyandsarapresent@yahoo.ca. We look forward to having you as our guest at our next concert!
